In this issue, we delve into the world of Dekel, currently the hottest name in the psy-progressive scene, discussing his rise to fame and the inspirations behind his groundbreaking sound.

PM: For the benefit of those who may not be familiar with you, can you provide a brief introduction of yourself and share where you currently reside?

Dekel: My name is Dekel Kamiosky; born in 1992 in Kibbutz Ga’aton, Israel, and I have lived here since then.

PM: How did you first become interested in or exposed to Psytrance music?

Dekel: I was 15 or 16 when I attended my first ‘nature party’ event. It was immediate – the breathtaking nature and the energy I felt emanating from the people I met. I just fell in love!

PM: What inspired you to begin producing Psytrance & how did you get started in the field?

Dekel: Music has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I played percussion, and by the age of 13, I began DJing, mainly at friends’ events. Music was always there. But when I discovered Psy Trance, it became my main focus in life.

PM: The DEKEL project was launched in 2016 and has experienced rapid growth in the past couple of years, particularly considering the difficulties faced by the music industry due to the pandemic. How do you interpret the swift success you have experienced?

PM: Many people in our scene point out that you succeeded in creating your own distinctive style. A fact which nowadays is a massive achievement on its own. How would you describe your style of music?

Dekel: It’s hard for me to label my music, as I’m honestly just trying to create sounds that excite me. But if we must name it, I feel comfortable calling it Minimal Psy.

PM: We’ve seen you through time sporting several different musical instruments in your posts and digging into several music genres. Are you currently working on or do you have plans to work on other projects in addition to Dekel?

Dekel: I enjoy playing and producing different genres simultaneously; jumping from one to another creates a nice balance. And yes, I am currently working on a new downtempo/chill-out project, set to be presented this upcoming summer.

PM: As many of our readers are likely involved in music production themselves, could you provide some details about your approach to creating tracks and the techniques you use in the production process?

Dekel: I honestly don’t have any secret or magical tip to share. Just write as much music as possible and test it on people and the dancefloor – that’s the best and only reference.

PM: A few basic studio questions for the geeks of our scene, favorite digital audio workstation (DAW), plugins, and hardware?

Dekel: Nothing specific, honestly. I mostly enjoy creating with analog equipment – the physical interaction with a machine, touching and moving things, feels more natural to me than using a mouse.

PM: Now, for the question we’ve established for all interviews: Name your three favorite artists at the moment.

Dekel: Nigel Godrich, Simon Posford, Thom Yorke.

PM: What are your plans for 2024 and onwards?

Dekel: Looking ahead to 2024, my main goal is to bring my chill-out album to fruition. It’s an exciting journey, exploring new soundscapes and emotions, and I’m eager to share this evolving musical experience with our tribe.

PM: Is there any message you would like to send before we wrap this up?

Dekel: See you on the dancefloor! mission2png
